Women4
Resources is part of the Wales ,Violence
Against Women Action Group a coalition
of organisations drawn from campaigning
groups, charities.service providers, academics
and trade unions .
We came together early in 2009 with the
aim of tackling violence against women
in Wales through raising awareness, challenging
attitudes and pressing for change in government
policy.
On Tuesday, October 6th our policy report
"violence Against Women; Why an integrated
strategy for Wales? was presented to the
Welsh Assembly Government.
W4R views were influenced by its work
in Liberia and the commitment of President
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in Liberia to a
government violence against women action
plan
Jennifer Twelvetrees, Chair of Women4resources
( Wales/Africa) calls on the Welsh Assembly
Government to introduce an integrated
strategy to tackle violence against women
which complies with international obligations.
“Violence against women is pandemic,
no country, no culture, no woman, young
or old is immune. Ban Ki-Moon, UN Secretary
General.
W4R works in Liberia in West Africa where
grass roots activism altered the course
of history.
Women’s courageous action bought
14 years of Civil war to an end and the
election of the first African Women President.
( see documentary,”Pray the Devil
back to Hell” how sisterhood bought
peace to Liberia. (www.channel

As Ellen Johnson Sirleaf said “my
Presidency is due to the triumph of women,
the courage of women and the stamina of
women”
One of her first actions was to introduce
a violence against women strategy.
We need to follow her example in Wales.
