school children outside Elin Library in Kenya

Great news from Vihiga County in Western Kenya! Our new special fund for giving loans to entrepreneurial women Women in Libraries Mean Business  has had its first beneficiaries. We have given small loans to support three enterprising women to set up a chicken business, a fish business, and a business growing and selling onions and maize. The  women who were lucky this time will have a at least 6 months to pay back the loans. Once the money is repaid we can then support other small businesses run by women in this group.

A view into the Gommunity Gardens

This photograph was taken at the Vetch Field Site in the centre of Swansea, and it shows how exotic ordinary courgette plants can look. The Community Gardens and the open space at the site of the former Vetch Football Grounds are a great resource for anybody, but particularly women and children, who live in the Sandfields area. In the summer it is busy with children enjoying themselves on the play equipment or playing ball games. It is also a safe place to meet and sit in the sun with other women for a chat.
