We
are helping to eliminate
poverty in Sub Saharan Africa by
providing resources to help women
to earn an independent living. At
present women earn $1 for an 8 hour
day, breaking rocks for road building.
We
are encouraging
women to be part of the decision making
process of their country whether this
is in Liberia or Wales. In January
2008, women from Liberia and Swansea
went together to speak directly to
the Deputy Minister for Gender and
Equality.
.
We
are enabling women in
Wales, of all ages and ethnicities
to be involved in supporting grass-roots
projects in Africa and to learn first
hand about life there. Our committee
comprises 50% women from South Wales
and 50% from other countries.
.
We
are supporting
women
in their stand against violence.
“. violence
against women and rape continue unchecked.
After 14 years of civil war, Liberia's
women, with support of the new president
and the international community are
taking crucial steps towards eradicating
this scourge." Thalif

We
work to Millennium Development Goal
3 – Promote
gender equality and empower women.
So
that women in Sub Saharan Africa can
raise their families out of poverty,
we need money for:
Work
skills acquisition
Education and training
Health awareness
Challenging violence against
women
Supporting women to become part
of the decision making process
and take their place in Civil
Society
Setting up viable enterprises
through micro-finance loans
Supporting and empowering women
to counter violence and abuse

The
group is limited in what it
can produce in the small school
since the women can only work
during daylight hours because
there is no generator at present.
Solar lighting is another
thing we want to develop for
the group.

We
also want to make links with
other projects in West Africa
to provide inspiration and
guidance. We hope it will
be possible to take part in
national training initiatives
since the group is now a not-for-profit
NGO. The Liberian Government
is actively promoting women’s
initiatives. Sewing
