POP UP SHOP 2017

Our  “Pop up Shop ” during International Women’s Day week in March 2017 was planned as a fundraising activity but  it turned out to be a lot more than that. Women from all walks of life volunteered for us: women had the chance to use a range of volunteering skills, and meet up with and share their skills with others. There was a lot of cake and we had a great collaboration with the Swansea Women’s Refugee and Asylum Group.

Raising money for the libraries in Western Kenya with a lovely dinner provided by the Patty Restaurant.  A great opportunity to network and spend time with friends.

PING PONG PLAYOFFS 2013

On the afternoon of Saturday 22 September in the gorgeous South Wales sunshine we gathered to celebrate the coming of autumn at a fundraising event for Women4Resources. Many rousing games of table tennis were played in the time-honoured spirit of feminist unruliness. We also circle-danced to bring in the Equinox and were entertained by Camilla Cancantata playing accordion and singing her “songs for interesting times.”

Donations from the ping pong players and their sponsors go to W4R’s projects in Kenya and Liberia. It was delightful to simultaneously celebrate our community here while making empowering connections with women’s groups internationally.

When umpire Twickle Purple was asked the outcome of the Table Tennis Tournament she declared, “The winner is LOVE.”

JAZZIN 4 AFRICA 2012

Jazzin’ 4 Africa supports Swansea Liberia Community Link

The charity, Women4Resources, linking Swansea with Liberia was the recipient of monies raised during a swinging evening of jazz favourites and African songs with the Syncopated Sisters, Women in Jazz All Stars Band and Company B.

The £1,500 raised will support the Liberia Women’s Training Centre where women have learnt new skills enabling them to move from breaking rocks for a £1 a day to running their own businesses thus making enough money for their children to attend school.
