What a Great Year for Women4Reources

We had such a good year at Women4Resources!

Our Volunteering 4 Skills project enabled us to work with women who might otherwise not have had the opportunity to be part of a grassroots charity supporting initiatives in Wales and Africa. GWEN, the Grassroots Women’s Entrepreneur Network was set up with the support from Santander who funded a worker. We had training and information sessions, mentoring training, a pop-up-shop for International Women’s Day in March. SWANFRICA, the Swansea Bay network of small charities working with partners in Africa really pulled together for our latest event, the Green Fayre organised by the Environment Centre which took place at the National Waterfront Museum. Here’s to realizing many more of our hopes and wishes for Women and Girls all over the world!

Great news from Vihiga County in Western Kenya! Our new special fund for giving loans to entrepreneurial women Women in Libraries Mean Business  has had its first beneficiaries. We have given small loans to support three enterprising women to set up a chicken business, a fish business, and a business growing and selling onions and maize. The  women who were lucky this time will have a at least 6 months to pay back the loans. Once the money is repaid we can then support other small businesses run by women in this group.

Pop Up Shop and Cafe at the Creative Bubble

Well worth all the hard work from everyone!!! Women4Resources made enough money to keep 3 girls in school in Kenya for six months. The Women’s Refugee and Asylum group did even better. As a result of our Pop Up Event the group got a donation of £ 2000 for travel expenses to make sure that members can continue to attend meetings. We have already been asked when we will do it again and we have our thinking caps on. Although we started with the main aim to do fundraising the outcomes of the 3 days were much more than money. All volunteers said that they enjoyed themselves and we truly did have a diverse group of women all working together.
